Murathe said the DP should go into the retirement together with President Uhuru Kenyatta since they have both been in government for two terms sharing power ‘equally’.

“If he (Ruto) has an MoU with Uhuru Kenyatta, then that was an agreement between two individuals,” he informed him over banking on Mount Kenya support in his 2022 bid.

He spoke on Wednesday during a cultural festival in Western Kenya.
The remarks sparked a hot debate within the ruling party as some leaders questioned on whose behalf Murathe, a close ally of the President, was speaking.

Sensing the raging debate may break the governing outfit, Waiguru proposed the party hold snap elections so the position of the party on any issue can be given by ‘legitimate party leaders’.

“It is therefore imperative, and in order, that the Jubilee Party hold party elections soonest possible, to forestall internal divisions, and ensure that statements are made by Elected Party Officials, and that they infact represent the views of the Jubilee Party as a whole,” she tweeted on Saturday.

But in a quick rejoinder, Murathe, who is serving on interim basis, fired back at Waiguru saying she was free to take up his vice chairman position.

“Please acquaint yourself with the party constitution. Article 33 (5) on the transition clause. Tuju retires in 2020. The operative word is “shall”. Unless you want to amend the party constitution,” he tweeted.

Murathe added: “Mine,… You can have on a silver platter even tomorrow. Join the rabid attack dogs.”
