While slamming the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over Itumbi’s arrest, Kikuyu Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ichungwa claimed the arrest was based on 2022 succession politics. Photo: Daily Nation Source: UGC READ ALSO: Recovering Kibra MP Ken Okoth visits Kenya’s ambassador to France Judy Wakhungu Addressing journalists on Thursday, July 4, Ichungwa argued that Itumbi’s arrest was part of wider scheme to intimidate anyone percieved to be associated with the deputy president. “What is on trial today is not Dennis Itumbi, what is on trial today has nothing to do with letters, what is on trial today is succession politics of the Republic of Kenya,” he said. “It has become customary to criminalise anything or anyone who is percieved or seen in anyway to be associated with Deputy President William Ruto,” he added. READ ALSO: 7 ways Bob Collymore prepared for his death According to the MP, public offices in the country have been abused by few bureaucrats who are on a mission to coerce and intimated people based on the political inclinations. “We shall not be coerced to pursue whatever political inclination that they want us to be coerced to purse,” said Ichungwa. He spoke after Itumbi was arraigned in regard to the letter that contained details of an alleged meeting in which claims to assassinate the DP were discussed by officials from Mt Kenya region. Preliminary investigations on the letter, which purported that four cabinet secretaries had met to plan on the assassination, found that it was fake.
